Chandigarh: President of Punjab Youth Congress, Amarpreet Lally has again stressed on his demand to name the International Airport of Mohali as Shahid Bhagat Singh International Airport. He addressed a press conference at Congress Bhawan Chandigarh along with Youth Congress President of Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha Constituency, Barinder Singh Dhillon.
Amarpreet Lally said that the Punjab and the Union Governments have been ignoring their demand. He threatened to intensify their protest in future to get the name of Mohali Airport on the name of Shahid Bhagat Singh.
He said, “Punjab Youth Congress will be organizing a ‘Pad Yatra’ from Khatkarh Kalan to Mohali Airport in the first week of January 2016.” “If the name of Delhi Airport can be kept on the name of former PM Indira Gandhi and the name of Mumbai Airport can be kept on the name of Shatarpati Shivaji, then why does the Union Government is shying away to keep the name of Mohali Airport on the name of Shahid Bhagat Singh,” he added.
Amarpreet Lally said, “Sahihd Bhagat is a youth icon of Punjab and a symbol of patriotism.” He said the Union and the Punjab Government should realize the heroic deeds of Shahid Bhagat Singh and give him deserving respect and honor by naming the International Airport of Mohali on his name.
He said, “Punjab Youth Congress organized a candle march on the occasion of birth anniversary of Shahid Bhagat Singh (28th September) in respect of the great freedom fighter and laid emphasis on our demand.” “All the district units of Youth Congress in Punjab submitted the memorandums demanding the naming of Mohali Airport on the name of Shahid Bhagat Singh,” he added.
General Secretary of PYC Sandeep Bhatia & Kanwar Bajwa, Secretary Gurpinder Mahal & Vikram Pehalwan and President of Lok Sabha Patiala Jimmy Dhaliwal were also present on this occasion.
