Jalandhar: The Secretary Power, A.Venu Prashad, who was appointed as the nodal officer to ensure proper procurement of paddy in the district has made it clear that no negligence would be tolerated in the procurement of paddy as the Punjab Government was committed to procure every single grain in the mandis.
Today reviewing the arrangements in the district with the district administration, representatives of procurement agencies and police officials here, he asked the SDMs to personally visit the mandis to ensure the proper purchase of paddy besides asked the procurement agencies to appoint Inspectors for each mandis so that the procurement should be made on time.
Talking about the decision taken by the Punjab Government to allow the farmers for lifting of paddy from mandis, he asked the officials to engage farmers on large scale as it would ease out the lifting process.
ADC (D) Kumar Amit informed that the administration was all set to start the paddy procurement from October 1st in 78 mandis of the district and has set the target to procure 8,55,275 MT of paddy this year as against 7,68,552 MT of paddy procured last year.
Mr. Prashad has also asked the Punjab Mandi Board officials to ensure adequate arrangements in mandis to protect produce and to have proper sanitation facilities. District food and supply controller and district mandi officers have been asked to make requisite arrangement of power, portable water supply and equipment to monitor the quality of paddy in each procurement centre.
ADC Mr. Gurish Dyalan has said that the PUNGRAIN was instructed to procure 24 %, MARKFED 21 %, PUNSUP 22 %, PSWC 10 %, PUNJAB AGRO 8 % and 15 % would be procured by the FCI.
Appealing to the farmers for moisture free paddy, Mr. Prashad said that the police official would ensure the combines were not plying beyond the restricted time.
