Jalandhar: In a major step, the district administration of Jalandhar has prepared a comprehensive plan to give a major fillip to the blue revolution under MNREGA scheme by revamping the village ponds.
The Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar, Kamal Kishore Yadav today informed that an advisory committee has been formed, comprising Divisional Soil conservation officer, Jalandhar, Assistant director Fishery, Assistant Registrar Cooperative societies as members where as the Chief Agriculture officer was nominated as its chairman. He said that committee has been directed to find out the possibilities of fish farming in villages across the district.
He said that on the initial stage 5 villages namely Roopewali, Raowali, Dhogri, Kukkar and Kapoor were selected to the implement the plan on pilot basis which would be extended to other villages later.
Talking about the motive of this plan, the Deputy Commissioner said that the it would be another source of revenue for Panchayats which would be a big booster for development works. He said that the Punjab Government was providing 50% subsidy to prepare ponds for fishery besides giving free training to farmers about the Marketing and technical assistance for fishery.
The Deputy Commissioner has also said that the concerned department has been directed to run an awareness campaign in villages about the economic aspect of the scheme to ensure the engagement of maximum farmers under the plan.
