Mahilpur: Shiv Kumar Bawa: Nationwide strike called by various trade unions protesting against the amendments in labour law today affected the lifeline across the country. The trade unions of Hoshiarpur district also supported the nationwide strike and staged protests at various places.
The trade unions, CPI and CPM staged a dharna infront of the police station Mahilpur and blocked the road traffic for about 2 hours affecting the road transport on Hoshiarpur-Chandigarh road. Comrade Tarsem Singh Jassowal and Comrade Pooran Parkash Chawla led this protest.
District Secretary of CPM, Comrade Darshan Singh Mattu in his address demanded to cancel the Road Transport Safety Bill 2015, re-implementation of MNREGA scheme at all the places and strengthening the public distribution system.
The protesters shouted slogans against the anti-people and anti-poor policies of the government.
