Jalandhar: Emphasizing the need for maximum usage of new age information technologies, Surjit Singh Rakhra , Higher Education Minister , Punjab today announced that Punjab was all set to Start the ‘Smart Classes’ in all the government colleges of the state. He said that a special grant of Rs. 5 lac for each government college has been released for upgrading the libraries and laboratories for using latest IT tools to brush up the knowledge of students to prepare them for future challenges as well as requirements.
Presiding over the 5th annual convocation of CT Institute, here today, Mr. Rakhra said that India has a unique advantage of having nearly 50 % youth population thereby . “Now it is our duty to channelize this youth power for taking our country to new heights”, he added. He said that we should chalk out our policies as well as programmes to ensure greater participation of this youth power so that we could groom them well for future challenges ahead..
The Higher Education Minister exhorted the students to set their targets and achieve academic excellence through hard work and commitment to thereby contributing in the nation’s growth. Describing the corruption, the major root cause of all social evils of the country, the Minister gave a clarion call to the students to take a pledge to work for the elimination of this evil.
Talking about the initiatives taken for the higher education in the state, the Minister said that the State government has already set up 11 new Universities and 13 Degree Colleges and 8 new Government Degree Colleges are being set up to enhance the access to higher education especially in rural as well far furlong areas of the state..
The Minister has also disclosed that a sum of Rs 250 crore was being spent to revamp the infrastructure in all the Government Colleges across the state within two years.
Earlier the Minister conferred the degrees to more than 1200 students of the CT institution.
