Jalandhar: Former Cabinet Minister of Punjab and Senior leader of Congress, Chaudhary Jagjit Singh died of heart attack today morning at a hospital. He was 82 years of age.
A Congress leader informed that Chaudhary Jagjit Singh complained of chestache in the morning at about 5 am. He said that he was rushed to a hospital where he breathed his last.
Chaudhary Jagjit Singh was elected as MLA in 1980 for the first time. He was Local Bodies Minister in the Government of Capt. Amrinder Singh. His brother Chaudhary Santokh Singh is the sitting MP from Jalandhar.
Many political and social personalities have mourned the death of Chaudhary Jagjit Singh.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today expressed deep grief over the demise of Chaudhary Jagjit Singh.
In a condolence message, Sukhbir Badal described Chaudhary Jagjit Singh as a mass leader in real sense, who spent his major part of his life to safeguard the interests of deprived classes besides their overall development. He said that his demise has created a void not only in Congress but too in the politics of entire state, which is difficult to fill.
