Kapurthala: Hundreds of Congress workers led by senior party leader and local MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh today staged a massive protest against the alleged ‘police-politician-drug mafia’ nexus in Kapurthala in the backdrop of the arrest of an ex-Akali Block Samiti member, Parminder Singh Minta with two and a half kgs heroin. The dharna was held in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Addressing the dharna, Rana demanded a thorough probe by a Special Investigation Team to ensure that the culprits do not get scot-free and also the police and the politicians patronizing the drug smugglers got identified and exposed.
He also appealed to the Narcotics Control Bureau of India to hold a separate investigation as Minta’s arrest by the Jalandhar police recently had indicated towards a bigger nexus. He pointed out, Minta must be associated with others as from where did he get the heroin and to whom he was going to supply it.
“May be Sukhbir and Majithia have no idea what these people are doing, but that does not prevent these people to abuse the power”, he observed, while adding, that is why it is important to probe the matter independently and expose and punish the real culprits.
Alleging that some police officials were hand in glove with the drug mafia, the Congress leader claimed that one Deputy Superintendent of Police was very corrupt and infamous for patronizing the drug smugglers.
Rana also referred to the report prepared by former DGP Shashi Kant wherein he has referred to one ‘Kalia’. He asked, this ‘Kalia’ needs to be identified and probed.
Appealing the Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Badal, who is also the Home Minister to order an independent probe, Rana said, nobody should be spared irrespective of which party he belongs to. “It is the question of saving our generation”, he remarked.
