Hoshiarpur: “The Punjab Government is not serious about making some policy regarding the conservation of underground water because the residents of Punjab are either not aware about the alarming situation or they are very careless about the issue,” said PK Rana, President of Safal Bharat Guru Parampra in a press release today.
Notably, Safal Bharat Guru Prampra have submitted a petition in the National Green Tribunal regarding the conservation of underground water by imposing a complete ban on the Eucalyptus tree in Punjab and seeking a policy from the Punjab Government regarding the conservation of underground water.
He said, “The present condition of the underground water is very critical, as most of the blocks of under ground water are either over exploited or at alarming situation. If the people do not get aware and ultimately, the Government do not make necessary policies for conserving the underground water, Punjab will be a desert within 10 years.”
PK Rana informed that the Punjab Government submitted a data in the National Green Tribunal recently which depicts the number of demand notices distributed in different blocks of underground water which have been marked as Safe, Critical, Semi-Critical, Over-Exploited and Notified. He informed that the Punjab Government distributed nearly 90% of the demand notices for the electricity connections of Tubewells were distributed in the Over Exploited and Notified blocks of underground water in Punjab.
Dr. Ashish Sareen reacting upon the given data alleged that the government do not think above the vote bank and even the people have not been understanding the alarming situation. He sought the mass support for saving the underground water of Punjab and thus saving green Punjab.
