Hoshiarpur: In order to provide a barrier-free environment to the differently abled people at District Administrative Complex (DAC) or Mini Secretariat, District Administration has initiated efforts to provide disabled friendly facilities like access ramps, designated toilets etc. to them at DAC.
Revealing the measures being taken to make the DAC disabled friendly, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Anindita Mitra said that one more ramp, apart from the one newly built, would be constructed in the complex so that the people facing any kind of disability would feel at ease while entering into administrative complex. DC said that the new ramp would also be constructed within next three or four months.
“Besides this, 11 toilets designated for the disable persons in DAC would also made functional in the next month. To create such disabled friendly facilities, Rs. 18 lacs would be spent,” revealed Anindita Mitra adding further that the Lift facility has already at the DAC.
She added that providing adequate facilities to the disabled was just a beginning. The district administration has also planned to construct ramps at all the government offices and government buildings in district at the entry points so that the wheel chair users, people with limited walking abilities and people facing other kinds of disabilities can easily enter. Also friendly environment would be provided for the differently able people at government offices and institutes. She added that the banks have also been directed to get such ramps constructed.
