Hoshiarpur: World Earth Day was observed at D.A.V.Sen.Sec.School, Hoshiarpur jointly by the NCC Troop and NSS Unit of the school on Wednesday. A poster making competition was organized under the leadership of ANO & Program Officer Sanjiv Kumar Bakshi. The program started with Mr. Bakshi acquainting the cadets about the history and importance of World Earth Day.
He told that Earth Day is an annual event and is observed every year on April 22. On this day various events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970 and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year. It was the 46th World Earth Day being observed today as the first ‘World Earth Day’ was observed in year 1970. The day is observed as a thanksgiving day to mother earth & to create awareness among all human to preserve the natural resources.
As many as 56 NSS volunteers and NCC Cadets of school’s NSS unit & NCC Troop participated in competition. The themes for poster making included ‘Save the Mother Earth’, ‘Save Natural Resources’, ‘Grow More Trees’, ‘Save Water’ & ‘World Earth Day- Thanksgiving to Mother Earth’. Principal of the school Mr. Taranjit appreciated the NSS unit & NCC troop of the school for organising this event. He said that observing such days plays a vital role in creating awareness among society for preserving our natural resources and environment. Havildar Nishan Singh and Havildar Narinder Singh from 12 Pb.Bn.NCC Hoshiarpur were also present on the occasion.
