Hoshiarpur: Deputy Commissioner Mrs Anindita Mitra said as many as 91 dairy units have been set up to ensure self-employment to the rural youths and women after getting their training done under Dairy Development Department’s Self Employment Scheme and Women Empowerment Scheme in the district during 2014-15.
Deputy Commissioner revealed that during the above said year 139 aspirant deserving youths from rural areas have undergone two weeks special training under Self Employment Scheme of the Dairy Development Department out of which 84 youths have set-up their dairy units after getting loans worth 5.30 Crore from various banks with assistance from the concerned department. Besides subsidy to the tune of Rs. 65 lakh have also been provided to these youths for setting up of their units, added DC.
Mrs. Mitra further disclosed that during 2014-15 as many as 15 women got training regarding dairy farming, fodder management for cattle and other aspects of dairy units under women empowerment scheme out of which 7 progressive women have established dairy units. Besides this subsidy of Rs. 12 lakh has also been provided to these progressive women for setting up of their self-employment ventures. “Un-employed youths from rural areas and women who want to progress should get benefit of such government schemes meant for providing self-employment opportunities. By doing so they can also contribute in progress of their respective families,” added Deputy Commissioner.
Deputy Director, Dairy Development, Hoshiarpur Mr. Harsharan Singh revealed that trainees have been imparted with training in fodder management, common diseases of cattle, preparing products from milk and other important factors pertaining to the dairy farming. He also informed that besides providing special training the department also organized 21 Consumer awareness camps 17 one day awareness camps for marginal dairy farmers to apprise them of modern techniques being used in dairy farming these days during 2014-15.
