Chandigarh: Senior Advocate of Punjab & Haryana High Court, Advocate HC Arora issued a legal notice to the Punjab Health Systems Corportaion in May 2014 regarding the non-availability of medicines in 1186 dispensaries of Punjab state. Later, he filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in High Court.
During resumed hearing of the PIL filed by Advocate HC Arora before a Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justices Satish Kumar Mittal and H.S. Sidhu, the Punjab Health Systems Corporation filed a written statement, stating therein that supply of medicines to 1186 Rural Dispensaries was discontinued in the year 2013 but was resumed on 20th October, 2014 after receipt of a legal notice from the petitioner on 27th May, 2014.
The PHSC has clarified that medicines worth Rs.1.92 crore were supplied to the dispensaries during 2014. The written statement further states that orders amounting to Rs. 9.87 crore have been placed for the purchase of medicines and the expected date of delivery is 15th April, 2015. Thereafter the supply of medicines will be regularized in proper manner.
The next hearing of the PIL is on 19th May, 2015.
