Hoshiarpur: “With an attitude to solve the problem of stray cattle in Punjab, the Punjab Government is going to construct one cattle pound in every district of Punjab with an allocation of Rs. 250 Crore,” said Mr. Kimti Bhagat, the Chairman of Punjab Cow Service Commission during a press conference at PWD rest house Hoshiarpur today. He added, “Each cattle pound will be constructed in the area of about 25 Acres which would accommodate nealy 4,000 stray cattle.”
Mr. Kimti Bhagat also informed, “The Punjab Government is going to impose Cow Service Cess on selective products and services for managing the expenditure of cattle pounds.” He said that the Cow Service Cess will be imposed on liquor, beer, cement, marriage palaces, gas agencies, petrol pumps, electricity etc.
The citizens of Punjab could now hope for the solution of problem of the stray cattle which are responsible for the traffic problems and accidents.
Mr. Kimti Bhagat also informed that the Punjab Government have imposed a complete ban on the transportation of the cattle to other states for the purpose of slaughtering. He said that for the transportation of cattle for other purposes, a permit can be obtained from the DC office.
Mr. Kimti Bhagat said that the Punjab Government have amended the Cow Slaughter act and increased the punishment from 1 year to 10 years in jail and a fine of Rs. 10,000 will also be imposed.
He also said that the Commission demanded the facilities provided to the BPL families should also be given to the people working in the cattle pounds. He said the Punjab Government have agreed for it.
