Hoshiarpur: Aiming to give fillip to health research in the rural areas the state Punjab Health Minister Mr. Surjit Kumar Jayani today laid the foundation stone of Punjab’s first Model Rural Health Research Unit (MRHRU) at Community Health Centre, Bhunga near here. The project with cost of Rs. 3.5 crore is one of the 15 such centers approved by the Center Government for various states in the country.
After laying the foundation, Punjab Health Minister in his address revealed that the aim behind this project was to research the causes behind the diseases like cancer and find causes pertaining to maternity mortal rate, drug allurement and other factors alike so as to establish healthy living style among the rural masses. “State government would take steps in tandem with the suggestions based on the research outcomes of the experts at this center, said Mr. Jayani adding further that the construction would start soon and MRHRU project would be functional within ten months. He further said that the unit would work with cooperation from the PGI Chandigarh and Govt. Medical College Amritsar.
Health Minister further added that besides conducting research work the unit would also play a pivotal role in disseminating awareness for good health factors among the rural area residents particularly for the economically weaker sections.
Terming it an important project for the state, in her address CPS Mohinder Kaur Josh said that the research unit would contribute in many ways in the health research and further added in infrastructure in health research sector for the rural areas of the state. On the occasion Director Health Dr. Kiranjit Singh, SDM Hoshiarpur Anand Sagar Sharma, Civil Surgeon Dr. Surjit Singh, BJP Distt. President Shiv Sood, Dr. AK Jain, Dr. Gagandeep, Dr. Ashu Grover and Dr. Ajay Bagga were also present among others.
