Jalandhar: Hoshiarpur-Ferozepur DMU train today hit a tractor trailer at a manned crossing at village Khojewal. In first such instance of its kind in the area, the engine of the DMU was badly damaged and two persons in the driving cabin were killed on the spot. The driver of the tractor trailer also died on the spot. 2 others were injured.
It is said that delay in closing the railway gate caused the accident. Some people said that the gateman didn’t closed the gate on time while some others said that the gateman was closing the gate and in the meanwhile the driver of tractor trailer rushed the tractor trailer to cross the railway line before the gates were shut down. The truth would come out after the investigation. The gateman Brijesh Kumar has been missing after the accident.
The deceased have been identified as DMU driver Harbhajan Singh (55) resident of Ferozepur, assistant driver Paramjit Singh resident of Jalandhar and Chotte Lal, the driver of tractor trailer. Awadh Kumar who was sitting in DMU drivers cabin and Surinder Kaur, a passanger have been injured.
