Jalandhar: The Punjab Jagriti Manch, Jalandhar have served a notice to the Union HRD Ministry, Punjab Education Ministry, Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Defence Colony Jalandhar and St. Joseph’s Covent School, Cantonment road, Jalandhar regarding celebrating 21st February of every year as International Mother Language Day as per resolution of United Nations Organization (UNO) and for seeking direction to the various schools under CISCE for removing restriction on the students against speaking in their mother tongue ( for instance, Punjabi, in the State of Punjab).
General Secretary of Punjab Jagriti Manch, Satnam Singh Manik has demanded the instructions to all the educational institutions to celebrate Mother Language Day on 21st February from the Union HRD Ministry and Education Ministry of Punjab.
Terming ban on the students in some schools to interact in their mother language as the breach of their fundamental right, Satnam Singh Manik said that these schools must lift any such ban or be ready for legal action.
He said that if the no action will be taken regarding this notice, they would file a Public Interest Litigation in court.
