New Delhi: The Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, Jathedar Gurbachan Singh today laid the foundation of 1984 Sikh Genocide Memorial at Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib near Parliament of India in New Delhi. The Jathedars of other four Takhats, executive committee of DSGMC, CM Parkash Singh Badal and many other religious and political leaders were also present on this occasion.
The 1984 Sikh Genocide Memorial will be constructed in the memory of the Sikhs who were killed in November 1984 after the assassination of the then PM Indira Gandhi. More than 5000 Sikhs were killed in the genocide.
The victim Sikh families have been struggling for justice from last 30 years but they haven’t got the justice yet. Though, the PM Manmohan Singh had expressed his grief over the incident and the Government of India have even issued funds for the rehabilitation of the victim families. But, the victim families have been still struggling for justice, no government have given justice to them.
President of DSGMC, Manjit Singh GK said that this Memorial would remind the future generations of the Sikhs about the November 1984 Genocide of the Sikhs. He said that the Memorial will be completed and opened for public as soon as possible.
