Hoshiarpur: Many of the Hoshiarpur residents have been unaware of the Wildlife Sanctuary in Hoshiarpur district situated at village Takhni. But, the mismanagement of Wildlife Department of Punjab Government have added more to it. Instead of making the people aware about the sanctuary, the Punjab Government have failed to provide required facilities to the sanctuary including water facility to the animals, electricity connection, boundary wall, telephone connection, etc.
President of Social Democratic Party and Bharat Jagao Andolan, Jai Gopal Dhiman received information about the Wildlife Sanctuary through Right to Information Act, 2005. He said that the Punjab Government have spent Crores of Rupees on this Wildlife Sanctuary but the corruption of the officials of Wildlife Department have left it mismanaged. He said that the PSPCL have cut the electricity connection of the Sanctuary and thus no tubewell works for providing drinking water to the wild animals. He said that the Boundary Wall has also not been completed since 20 years.
Jai Gopal Dhiman said that as there has been no water facility available in the Sanctuary, the wild animals do not stay there. They have been getting the drinking water facility from the water sources of hilly areas. Though, the place has been named as the wildlife sanctuary, but no wild animal stay in it. Moreover, the Government provide funds for the food products and other facilities to the wild animals, but the facilities do not reach to the animals and they go in the pockets of corrupt animals.
Jai Gopal Dhiman said that the Punjab Government must properly manage the Wildlife Sanctuary so that the Hoshiarpur residents must be proud of it.
